Introduction

The EPS-RY-YLX tipping-bucket rain gauge measures precipitation by converting rainfall into a measurable physical signal. It is widely applicable in small meteorological stations, hydrological stations, and agricultural and forestry departments for measuring precipitation volume, intensity, and duration. It outputs pulse signals, enabling rainfall measurement by recording the number of pulses.Through data processing and analysis using a weather station equipped with multiple sensors, it can be widely used in weather monitoring, agricultural meteorology, environmental monitoring, and urban climate research. This type of weather station is small in size, easy to install and maintain, operates stably, and is suitable for various environments.

Structure of tipping bucket rain gauge

  • Rain Gauge: Located atop the sensor, it collects rainfall and channels it into the interior through a standardized aperture.
  • Filter Screen: Installed beneath the rain inlet, it blocks debris such as leaves, insects, and dust to prevent clogging.
  • Tipping Bucket Mechanism: Comprising two symmetrical small buckets, this core metering component holds a fixed volume of rainwater. Upon reaching the preset level, each bucket automatically tips to complete the measurement.
  • Pivot and Leveling Mechanism: Enables sensitive tipping via high-precision bearings or knife-edge pivots. The leveling structure calibrates the sensor’s horizontal orientation.
  • Signal Triggering Device: Generates a trigger signal output when the tipping bucket flips, producing a standard pulse signal for rainfall accumulation and intensity calculation.
  • Housing and Protective Structure: Constructed from corrosion-resistant, UV-resistant materials to shield internal components and withstand long-term outdoor operation.
  • Base and Mounting Interface: Secures the sensor for pole, platform, or bracket installation, facilitating integration into automatic weather stations or rainfall monitoring systems.
  • Signal Output and Terminal Block: Provides pulse output, RS485, or other communication interfaces for seamless connection to monitoring platforms.

Working principle


The water collection port collects rainwater and injects into the metering bucket through the water injection port. When the water injection volume reaches a predetermined value, the bucket flips over. During the turning process, the magnetic steel passes the reed switch to turn the reed switch on and off. Records can achieve the purpose of automatic collection.
